Growing Up So Fast

Just a quick update to say Sabine has made lots of discoveries this week! First, we tried out the Bumbo. She's not quite strong enough to sit in it for much more than a minute or two, but it was a pretty good start.





We also tried out the exersauser, which we are borrowing from our friend B, even though Sabine is still a little small for it.



Tatum insisted on making a cameo.



We're still dealing with some reflux issues, hence the ever-present bib, but we're finding that Sabine is more comfortable in an upright position. So that was what prompted us to try out the new gear, and it seems to be an overall success.

Sabine has also found her voice. She's never had a problem voicing her opinions, but on Wednesday night (we could tell exactly when it happened) she realized she could control the sound. It's pretty funny to hear her. She is suddenly much more talkative, and crying has become a form of entertainment. She certainly still cries, but now she hears herself and immediately starts trying to manipulate the sound. It's been fun to watch, not to mention a small relief on our ears.

Three Months

Week 13 is almost over, and we celebrated Sabine's official 3 month birthday on Monday. (If by "celebrate" you mean "do what you do every day so as not to disrupt the princess' routine.") She feels like she is getting bigger every day--as are our arm muscles!

Here is a picture showing off her newly developed rolls. And hopefully insuring that she doesn't show our little website to any future boyfriends anytime soon.



Sabine has also just started to fit into her 3-6 month-sized clothing. They're still a little big on her, but it's fun to start experimenting with some of her new outfits! I love this coat. I want the same one in my size.

Week 12

We're headed into week 12 already, I can't believe it. Work is going well so far, I just have a lot to do so blogging may be slow for a while.

Sabine is smiling more every day, and is becoming quite good at getting her fist to her mouth. She's got a good grip, too, and grabs onto her rattle now. Sometimes it makes her grin to hear it, and sometimes she clunks herself in the head with it and...doesn't enjoy that quite as much. It's a steep learning curve.

She's also still not a fan of tummy time. We're supposed to be doing it for ten minutes a day to strengthen her back and neck muscles. Apparently with the back to sleep campaign (AAP recommends putting children to sleep on their backs to reduce the chances of SIDS) babies these days are crawling and sitting up later because their back and neck muscles aren't as developed from lying on their back all the time. Sabine was pretty good at it for a while, until she started exploring everything with her tongue. Now she just lies face-down on the blanket and gums at it until she screams. So we haven't been pushing the issue. She's so wiggly already, we're suspicious she's not going to be too much of a late bloomer when it comes to getting mobile!

Sorry posting has been lighter recently. I went back to work on Monday, so my blogging time has been drastically reduced. While I was nervous about the transition, it seems to be going pretty well overall. I did miss work and my co-workers, and we found a great nanny. Plus, I am enjoying being able to work on the computer without keeping one eye/hand on Sabine.

Our friends Sam and Matt visited us over the weekend. Sabine has started looking very surprised when the camera flashes. I am not sure why--it's been flashing almost non-stop since she was born.





Sabine is now over 11 weeks old. She sucks on her fist all the time, and is in the process of figuring out how to grasp onto toys and bring them to her mouth. She's also started transitioning out of the scrawny newborn phase (finally) and is putting on some chunk. She's got a great roll developing on each of her thighs. Hopefully I can get a picture of it soon.
