33 Months
This month has been a huge joy for us. Last week Sabine went through a major growth spurt, as I mentioned, and as of today, she is doing more and more independent play, more analytical thinking, and coordinating her movements more than ever before. She can jump up and down on one leg (kinda) and can jump over a pretty tall obstacle (my legs, stacked on top of each other) from a standing position.
Our little regression with potty training seems to be over, and Sabine's done using any sort of training seat, she can just balance herself on a regular toilet now.
Between her long-ish naps (they're averaging an hour and a half these days) and the long daylight hours, she's not going to sleep until close to 10:00 or later these days, but it gives us a lot more family time in the evenings, and extra time to spend outside when the sun isn't at its peak.
Sabine has also re-developed an interest in trains, although moreso with her toy trains than ever before. It's interesting to watch her play with them, she spent a full 45 minutes today alone with her Thomas and Rosie trains (they have a little button on top you can push to turn them on so they move by themselves) and while she's mildly interested in building the track for them to run on and standing up little buildings around it, she's more interested in the trains' personalities. She talks to them, gives them pick-ups, and put Thomas in time-out multiple times because he pushed Rosie. (She'd leave him running but put him in a corner so he couldn't go anywhere. It really did sound like he was complaining.)
Sabine likes to make personalities for just about everything, including the soap and shampoo bottles in the shower and bathtub. She will often spend a whole shower or bath putting her babies to bed over and over, which mostly involves floating a soap bottle and covering it with a washcloth.
Sabine's preferred toy is a cloth doll named Daisy these days. Daisy is top on the co-sleeping pecking order right now, and often goes with us in the car to keep Sabine company. We've had many discussions about why we don't buckle Daisy in, just Sabine. And why Daisy can't come in the bath. (Oh, the WHY'S.)
I often let Sabine watch a little video on my phone as a reward (or just to buy time in the car) and her current favorite is this one:
She's always LOVED banjos for some reason, and the little boy is icing on the banjo cake. She is desperate to know his name. Eeek.
Sabine also ate lamb meatballs for the first time the other night and loved them, and she's added cucumber, Vietnamese noodles, and cherries to her growing list of food she likes. I'm not a huge fan of cherries, so we haven't had them around, but the grandparents corrected that, and as soon as Sabine realized there was a gadget involved, she was hooked.
It's been a great summer so far. Lots of growing and enjoying life! Here's hoping this trend continues.

Too Cool for...Something
Sabine has gone through a developmental growth spurt, recently. Her hair's longer (PONYTAILS! Which, more astoundingly, she requests every day, and then LEAVES IN! Will wonders never cease.)
And her train of thought seems to be more complex. We've entered the Why stage. All day long, "Why? Why? Why? Why?" We are trying to be patient, mostly it seems like a real request for information, but sometimes it is exhausting to come up with an answer for everything. Biology was a long time ago, kid. I don't remember the evolutionary explanation for why bees' stingers are on their butts. Please take it up with someone else and maybe let mommy enjoy some silence for thirty seconds while drumming up your next question.
The development has also meant that her glorious run of two-hour-long naps that go from exactly 2:00 to 4:00 has come to an end. She skipped naps twice this week, and when she does go down it's anywhere between 12:30 and 3:30. There was also a slight regression in potty training, which has been (trying not to jinx it) perfect for weeks now. But hopefully we'll get back on track soon, and in the meantime, it's fun to have a conversation with someone who now takes great pleasure in ratting out daddy for using my toothpaste.

Dress Up
Sabine inherited a large box of dress-up clothes from a neighbor, and this has since become a new favorite pastime.
She's also a huge fan of Singing in the Rain, (both the movie and song) and has been desperate for an umbrella. I finally related and got her one, ladybug-themed, of course, and she now likes to coordinate it with her ladybug dress and go outside when the sprinklers come on and sing, "Do do do do, do do do do do do...."
Completely unrelated, but still quite cute, we had our first corn on the cob of the season. Sabine was a BIG fan.

32 Months
This year is already going by so fast. Sabine continues to amaze us daily with what she picks up, learns, and comes up with on her own. She's been very interested in babies for a while, she's always loved her baby dolls, and with several of the moms in our play group having just been pregnant, she's watched the process. One of Sabine's favorite games is to tuck a doll under her shirt and talk about the baby in her belly. (Usually it's a girl, and usually her name is Josie, but occasionally she switches it up on us, just to keep us on our toes.)
Sabine will go around telling her other dolls and stuffed animals that "I can't pick you up right now because I have a baby in my belly."
In this picture, she is demonstrating how her lap is getting smaller to one of her other dolls, like in her current favorite book, The Berenstain Bears' New Baby.
Sabine has a noticeably longer attention span now than she used to, she likes books with more words and spends longer at a given activity. She's doing a lot more independent play, and we get a kick out of listening to her make up scenarios with her dolls and animals in her bed when she's not in the mood to go down for a nap. It often involves Sabine draping a blanket over her head and talking about her long hair and/or braids. It's funny, I remember doing that as a kid, too!
Sabine also upped her creative skills this week--out of nowhere she said she was going to draw a person, and then proceeded to draw a circle with two eyes, a nose, and a mouth! I had no idea she knew how to do that, but it was absolutely identifiable, right up until she drew all over it with a different color. Still! Discernible shapes. That's a big step. She's drawn several other people since then, occasionally adding hair and ears as well.

Sabine's still very active, she loves to run and jump, but she's able to sit still for longer periods too, as I mentioned in the last post, restaurants have become much more enjoyable. She's currently taking a solid two-hour-long nap in the afternoons, usually around 2:00, which is great because for a while there we thought she was giving up her naps. But she's also going to bed later, often not falling asleep until after 9:00. It's hard to go to bed early when the sun is still out so late! But she gets more time with Daddy in the evenings, which is a treat for everyone, and we're able to enjoy the evenings a little, as the sun goes down and the air cools off just a bit. She's a big fan of running through the puddles when the sprinklers come on.
Overall, a great month!

Happy Father's Day
Happy Father's Day to our favorite daddy!
And to our favorite Grandpa! I wish we had a more recent picture, but this one will have to do. Sabine had a wonderful time with you on Friday, and we hope you are having a safe trip, so far.
We had a lovely weekend with family and friends. Sabine got some good quality time in with daddy, and they even watched Dumbo together for the first time. We didn't have to fast-forward at all, which is a big deal. Usually with movies there are intense or "scary" parts that Sabine insists we fast-forward, but Dumbo went straight through.
Dustin got some good bonding time in with his other favorite person this weekend, too, yay for another boy in the family!
We had a nice, relaxing weekend, and even hit a few restaurants. It is really getting easier with Sabine, she is able to sit still longer and entertain herself more. We're finally at a point where it is really fun to go out to eat together as a family. Hooray! That is something both mommy and daddy enjoy very much, and hopefully Sabine will too.
If only this beautiful weekend wasn't over quite so quickly.
