Happy birthday to our sweet, not-so-baby girl!
Both Aspen and Sabine were sick today. We've had a rough couple of nights, between congestion and coughs, and no one was up for a big celebration. So we've postponed a little party with family until everyone is feeling better, and just kept things quiet and cozy today.
Somehow, even when she's under the weather, this girl manages to have a sense of humor and a lot of love.
Aspen continues to grow and develop, despite any extra boogers or missed sleep! As of yesterday, Sabine is officially pronounced "Sabine"! Aspen's making longer sentences all of the time, like, "Mommy! Let go of my fork!" and she's getting better at galloping and jumping. She's wearing underwear all day now...and for the first time, all night tonight! We'll see how that goes. She's been waking up dry this week, both from naps and nighttime sleeps. It seems too early, but she's been consistent, so we'll just see where this goes and try not to push any more than she's ready for. She's still a very picky eater, but would happily subsist of of ice cream and "happy cake," as she calls it. (Birthday cake.)
Speaking of!
Sabine and I did manage to make a little cake to commemorate the day, today. Aspen is very into Minnie Mouse these days, so that was our small theme. (Thanks very much to Nana for dropping of some balloons today, to help things feel more festive, including a Minnie Mouse balloon! Happiest of birthdays to you, too, Nana! We can't wait to celebrate with you soon.)
Aspen got to blow the candles out for the first time, and did a great job!
Hopefully we'll be ready for more festivities soon. But in the meantime, it's been a very happy year with these two amazing girls, who continue to be close, and a beautiful balance for each other. We feel so lucky to be their parents.

Happy Valentine's Day!
Aspen and I had fun, going in to join Sabine in her classroom for their Valentine's Day party on Thursday.
The kids listened to a story and Aspen sat quietly on Sabine's lap on the rug. Then the big kids had snacks, which Aspen was more than delighted to partake in.
Next, they made a ladybug craft
and then got to the real point of the party--opening their valentine's!
Sabine seemed to really enjoy the process, and Aspen found the play kitchen and another younger sibling friend,
So she kept herself busy. And then Aspen found a rocking chair, and it was all over! She does love to rock!
Meanwhile Sabine had to head off to music class and then swimming for her enrichment class, so we ducked out and went home for nap time. And now we're in the middle of a long weekend, for Presidents' Day. We had pancakes and crepes with Nana, Aunt Dani, and the cousins this morning, and our real Valentine's treat: daddy gets to stay home from work tomorrow! We don't have any big plans, just some good family time.

Mardi Gras
We had our annual Mardi Gras celebration, missing some old friends and welcoming some new! It's become a really fun tradition.
The kids obligingly congregated under the table, and decided who would get the next piece of cake.
The baby was found
and a new queen crowned!
Though everyone enjoyed the cake.
And the play time, afterwards!
Fortunately, this year's queen was pretty benevolent, and she managed to set up a very democratic kingdom, complete with Mayor, Vice Mayor, and assorted town counsel men and women.
Allons, les enfants!

Keystone
We spent a long weakend in Keystone with Grandmom and Grandpa at the end of January. There was a hot tub in the condo that everyone was very excited to try out as soon as we got there...
But mommy was a party-pooper and deemed it too hot for kiddos, so we all got out pretty quickly.
Fortunately, there were lots of other distractions!
Sunday Sabine went to ski school all day, some of us skied in the morning, but then came in in time to watch the Broncos win the play-offs!
We jokingly asked Sabine at dinner if she wanted to go night skiing after a full day of ski school. To everyone's amazement, she was emphatic that yes, she wanted to do just that. So up we went, she skied down the whole mountain, and then went straight to bed and slept for almost 12 hours for the first time in her life.
The next day, Sabine decided she wanted to ski with us, so she took us over to see Tornado Alley, where she had been practicing her turns with her ski school on the bunny hill.
She seemed to be handling it just fine, so we set off for the big mountain, and the snow fort at the top.
It was revisited many times!
After seeing everyone come in and out of the condo enough times, Aspen was pretty ready to get in on the action.
So we got her out!
We also got out for some ice skating on the lake.
Sabine even found a little walker for Aspen to hold onto, and she had a good time following Sabine around on her own. "MY DO IT!"
After Aspen fell, Sabine fell, and if you listen closely, you can barely make out Aspen calling, "I'm coming, Wa-Bean! I'm coming!"
There was also some down time at the condo, and we had fun working on puzzles.
On our last night, we all went out to a nice dinner.
Complete with ice cream for dessert.
A very sweet way to end a really incredible vacation. Thank you, Grandmom and Grandpa!
