Monthly Mash-Up

We're a little behind on posting, but I think that's because there's been a little of everything and not much happening recently, all at the same time. No big events to document, but life is certainly continuing on! Sabine is going through a bit of an introverted phase. She's normally very gregarious and independent, so it's been a little hard to adjust just because we are not used to it, but we're definitely not turning down the extra cuddles! (If she would go back to sleeping through the night, though, we would not complain.)

Without further ado, I will mostly let the pictures show what we've been up to.

We went cross-country skiing in March with some good friends. Sabine got the luxury ride. (Luckily our friends took the first shift hauling Sabine, while Mommy and Daddy got their legs under them!)

IMG_3893

Sabine and Tatum continue to be close, and Sabine finally can hold still long enough now that Tatum will rest on her. It's very sweet.

IMG_4061

Sabine got a new bike helmet, she picked out a Spider-Man one. A neighbor has lent us a big girl bike to practice on, but first we need to procure some training wheels.

IMG_4063

A babysitter did some fancy braids in Sabine's hair, and it was the highlight of the week.

IMG_4158

We've done more baking--both bread and cookies.

IMG_4161

And we made it to the zoo with cousin E! That was a great time.

We've gone swimming

And in between beautiful days, we've gotten three separate snowstorms.

It's been fun, but we are ready for some warmer weather.

At one point Sabine attempted make-up...via markers.

IMG_4213

We celebrated Mommy's birthday

IMG_4291

And just because it's worth sharing, even though Sabine was stuck at home with a sitter, Mommy and Daddy were invited to the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame banquet by an old co-worker of Daddy's. We briefly met both Peyton Manning and Missy Franklin, who were both inducted that night. Quite an honor!

Happy Easter!

A few days late, but we had a great Easter celebration, and hope you did too.

We dyed eggs last week, with much success.

IMG_9108

On Saturday we had an egg hunt at a friend's house. The big girls had a blast running all over the yard.

On Sunday the Easter Bunny delivered, and we had another egg hunt inside our house.

Some gel decals that stick on our new glass door were a big hit. They are already falling apart from so much use. But it is fun while it lasts!

IMG_9319

Then we had a nice brunch with the whole family.

We attempted another kiddo portrait this year, but they were a little too excited to sit still long enough to snap a photo together. This is as close as we got.

IMG_9357

Then we headed up to Longmont to Aunt Diane and Uncle Nat's house, for yet another egg hunt! (First we had to check out all of their fun, vintage toys.)

IMG_4012

It was a perfect day for an egg hunt. Right around 70 degrees and not a cloud in the sky.

Uncle Nat even offered wagon rides. Sabine was a little unsure about all of it, but Ethan was game!

IMG_4034

There was still plenty to do, besides hunting for eggs, including the swing. Sabine still loves swinging. All in all, a great holiday!

Marching On

The big news this week is: Sabine got a hair cut! The last (and only other time) she went to the hair cutter's, she just got a trim. But this time we took off quite a bit, she's got a short little bob, and I think it is darling.

IMG_3797

She was a little nervous, but as you can see, she was willing to sit in the chair by herself this time (as opposed to on my lap) and watch Nemo on the TV. I think she was unsure about cutting off her hair, especially since Rapunzel, with her long, long hair, is her favorite movie character right now, but combing knots was becoming a battle every morning, so we sold her on the idea of cutting out the part that gets tangled. It worked, and her hair is definitely easier to brush out now. Plus the purple bows that the girl put in Sabine's hair really impressed her.

I also took her to the toy store next door, as a reward after it was all over, and she picked out a new puzzle, so all's well that ends well. She is really into puzzles these days!

She's also really into playing dress-up, so we spent some time in that section of the toy store, too.

IMG_3802

And at home her favorite costume is still her witch costume from Halloween. She'll play alone...

IMG_9041

With the cat...

IMG_3827

And with friends....

IMG_9070

In other news, we got a break from all the recent snow, and went to the playground today because it was 70 degrees out!

Sabine's getting more and more comfortable on the big girl swings, and is much better at pumping these days.

IMG_3876

It's been a fun, eventful week. We're off to the mountains again this weekend, hopefully the cold will hold out long enough to let our aspiring figure skater practice on the lake once again.

Figurative Drawing

I've all but been holding my breath, I know that usually around this age kids start doing figurative drawing, and I have been so excited to see what Sabine wants to draw. But until just the other day, it's been all scribbles.

Behold, out of nowhere, Spiderman:

(If you look really closely you might be able to read my grocery list through the back. This list will be saved forever.)

I haven't seen anything else since, but now we know it has started.

In other news, it was 60 degrees today, so we were running around in short sleeves to soak up as much sun as possible before the next snowstorm hits!

Happy Birthday Special Ladies!

A big happy birthday to Nana Lin and Great-Grandmom. We got to talk to Great-Grandmom on the phone, and then celebrated with Nana Lin in person over the weekend, starting with a breakfast out with the whole Kitson side of the family

IMG_3657

and then a dinner out with just the grown-ups.

IMG_3668

IMG_3674

In other news we had a good Mardi Gras, complete with our first King Cake, which we shared with local friends, although we completely forgot to take pictures.

IMG_3600

We also had a lovely Valentine's, daddy sent us lucky girls a beautiful bouquet.

IMG_3632

And visited with Uncle Eric one last time on his extended stay in Colorado.

IMG_3615

Somewhere in there we also tried our hand at bread making.

IMG_3638

Success!

IMG_3646

We've been staying busy and happy, and wish both Nana and Great-Grandmom a very happy year to come!
