Five Months!

(I wrote this last night, somehow I forgot to hit “post.” Sorry about that!)

Sabine turned five months old on Friday. She’s grown so much. She’s on new medication for her reflux, and we really feel like that’s helped her a lot. She’s happy almost all of the time, and really interested in the world around her now that she’s not always in pain. She sits up by herself now, and is nearly crawling. She gets up on all fours and does a little wiggle that usually involves a faceplant and manages to slowly inch forward. Mobility-ho! (Also: daddy got to spend lots of time this weekend putting up gates on the stairs.)

Sabine spends a lot of time in her exersauser, and loves her jumparoo. The downside is that now she think she should be jumping anytime she’s on her feet, so she’s giving our arms quite a workout. We’ve been able to watch her grow now that she’s in these toys, too. First, she was barely able to get one toe to touch at a time in the exersauser. Then both feet were able to tip-toe at the same time, then she was able to get one foot almost flat on the ground, and as of last week, both feet are now solidly on the floor.

It’s been happening so fast, but we are all having more fun every day, I think. (Ask me how I feel next week when she’s crawling faster than I can run.)

Happy five months, princess baby!

From France to Portland to the Far Reaches of the Western Slope

We’ve had a very fun and busy week with a house full of visitors. Sabine was introduced to a lot of her parents’ close friends in the past seven days. It was great to see you all, and we miss you so much already!

Happy Friday!

Getting Out Into the World

Just a couple of quick photos this week. Here is Sabine wearing the first outfit I ever bought her. I bought it last June when I found out we were having a girl, and the colors actually inspired our nursery theme.

We’ve also started using the Beco carrier. So far so good. Sabine prefers to face out, but as long as I’m moving she’s usually happy. We made our first foray into the world of errands last weekend, and I’m pleased to announce that the people at both Home Depot and Babies R Us think we have a delightful, smile-y child.

(Sorry this picture is mostly our heads. We didn’t get much of the actual carrier into the picture for some reason.)

We've also gone for a couple of walks in the nice weather we've been having recently, and as long as there's no wind, Sabine is becoming more tolerant of the outdoors.

Week 18

IMG_5428

Last Friday (the 19) Sabine turned four months old. That also happened to be the day she learned to roll over intentionally. She is now quite proficient at swinging her legs up and over to heave herself from her back to her stomach. While she is very proud of this new skill and does it repeatedly, she still hates tummy time. I don’t think she’s quite figured out yet that rolling over from her back will inevitably lead to tummy time. Next up, learning to roll from front to back!

As another milestone, we gave Sabine her first rice cereal mixed in her regular bottle last Wednesday. For some babies, apparently the weight of the cereal helps keep the reflux at bay. She seemed to do well, she chugged her bottle as usual and the reflux seemed mildly better. But then she had a serious choking fit on Friday night that scared me (and her) half to death, so we nixed cereal for now. We’re back to the medicine for dealing with the reflux.

Sabine has also developed a very poignant frustration scream. It’s nice to know she’s not in pain so much as just pissed off sometimes, but it’s still pretty noisy. We keep telling her it’s all part of the learning process, since she seems to do it the most when she’s eyeballing a toy that’s just out of reach. We’re hoping it’ll inspire her to get moving; we’re pretty sure she’s going to really enjoy mobility. (We’re also thinking we need to start childproofing the house here pretty soon.)

Thanks, RS, for the frog! The eyeballs are the perfect size for gumming.

Demonstrating the epitome of the Happy Baby yoga pose.

Also worth noting—Sabine has discovered her toes. Yay for new toys!

Lots of love and raspberries to Nanna Lin and Great-Grandmom!
